The oxidized bitumen 105-15 is also referred to as blown asphalt, oxidized bitumen, hard bitumen, and oxidized asphalt, which are all created by further vigorous air processing. The bitumen is also made from pure petroleum bitumen, blown through an asphalt flux by air. Due to the physical specifications it uses in construction.

Bitumen's physical properties can be altered by passing air through it at elevated temperatures. From very small, or semi-blowing, to "full" blowing, the level of oxidation varies. A penetration grade bitumen differs significantly from a bitumen spec. A combination of temperature and nomenclature determines the oxidized bitumen product classification. When heated up, the point at which bitumen becomes "soft" as measured by ring and ball softening tests and penetration values

Asphalt 105/15 oxidized by blowing very hot air over 60/70 bitumen is derived from petroleum bitumen, as previously explained. Additionally, the numbers relate to the midpoints of the materials' softening points and penetrations. According to ASTM D36, the softening point value is determined by the Ring and Ball method. Additionally, according to IP49 or ASTM-D5 penetration values are in 1/10 mm.

Oxidized Bitumen oil refining method, visbreaking residue production is also currently being used to produce qualified products based on different market and season demand. The production is likely not only a huge investment, but also a waste of high-quality heat.

Uses of oxidized asphalt 105/15

Oxidized asphalt 105/15 uses in the chemical, fuel, paints, lacquers, varnishes, paper-pulp-board, textile processing, road construction, pavement, crack seal and repairmen, civil works, roofing, construction industries; sealing and insulating buildings, adhesive, construction materials additive, dust-binding, insulating and impregnating agent, make rubber and plastic products. The oxidized asphalt 105/15 products are for paving. also used in asphalt-based paints for corrosion protection of metals, in lining public works structures, adhesives in electrical laminates, base for synthetic turf; typical uses for asphalt 105/15 used also for water-proof application and corrosion resistance for pipe coating, Portland cement pavement, hydraulic applications, paint manufacturing, caulking, mastics, and damp proofing. Asphalt 105/15 is using insulation and isolation bitumen membrane sheet. Car undercoating Automobile industry is specially required for Blown Asphalt. Vehicle undercoating material is based on Bitumen. Bitumen provides excellent waterproof, dustproof and noise proof for automobile undercoating.

105/15 oxidized asphalt product is used in paving. As a corrosion resistant paint, inliner for public works structures, adhesive for electrical laminates, and synthetic turf base; typically used for pipe coating, Portland cement pavement, hydraulic applications, paint manufacturing, caulking, mastics, and damp proofing. Bitumen membrane sheet is used for asphalt 105/15. For Blown Asphalt, the car undercoating automobile industry is in particular need. Bitumen is used as an undercoating material for vehicles. Using Bitumen as an undercoating provides excellent waterproofing, dustproofing, and noise proofing. 105/15 asphalt must be heated to a double temperature against the softening point in order to become flowable and viscous. Asphalt 105/15 must be used on surfaces that are dry, clean, and free of loose particles, formwork, curing products, irregularities, slurry, etc.

Storage and Handling

For many applications, it is crucial to heat packaged bitumen. On site, the packaged materials are usually heated and melted in boilers. Control during the heating process is important in terms of both health and safety as well as product quality.

Blown Bitumen material should be broken up before being placed in the boiler. This method exposes more surface area to the heat, encouraging a more even temperature distribution. Due to the smaller exposed surface area, aggressive heating at the bottom and sides of the boiler may well result in localized overheating, altering the characteristics of the modified bitumen and potentially creating thermal cracking, which may result in low lash vapors. Since these low flash vapors determine the fire risk, the flash point of the oxidized bitumen becomes irrelevant.

The melted bitumen should not be left in the boiler and reheated from cold, as there is a high potential for localized overheating (lack of convection means poor heat transfer) and the development of a pressurized pocket of low flash vapor.

Monitor or control devices that monitor or control the temperature should be placed accordingly. A thermometer in the bitumen some distance from the heat source could read significantly different (even hundreds of degrees) from the true temperature of the bitumen near the heat source due to the poor thermal conductivity of the bitumen.
